General guidelines

Library users are expected to adhere to the college's Code of Conduct. You are also asked to:

  • keep noise to a minimum so you do not disturb others;
  • return any borrowed material on time;
  • keep the spaces clean (only drinks in spill-proof containers are permitted in the Learning Commons);
  • ensure that you clean up before you leave;
  • respect the equipment (follow instructions and ask for help when needed);
  • respect the space (graffiti and vandalism on any property or equipment are strictly prohibited);
  • respect others (no threatening or harassing behavior will be tolerated).

Rules

1. Noise levels

  • Quiet zones: whispering only
  • Silent zones: no talking, individual work only
  • Group study zones: Normal conversations
  • Phones: Minimal and quiet conversations if allowed. Not permitted in stairways or washrooms.

2. Food and beverages

Food is not allowed in the library in order to protect our equipment, materials and furnishings, and to prevent pest infestations. Beverages in spill-proof containers are permitted. College security and/or Learning Commons staff will respond to complaints regarding food consumption.

3. Computer use

  1. Computers in the Library are reserved for academic purposes
  2. Users must log on with their username and password in order to use a computer.
  3. Users may not reconfigure or in any way endanger the proper functioning of the computers and the network.
  4. The Copyright Act of Canada must be respected.
  5. No gaming or eating
  6. The library is not responsible for files that may become lost or corrupted
  7. Users must save their files on a USB drive, the network, or the cloud in case of power outages, the computer being reset or turned off.

4. Library account and privacy

The Library purges accounts and all of their associated loan history after 5 years of inactivity – unless you have unreturned items or unpaid fines. Users have control over how their loan history is managed. See the options on your library account under "your privacy."

Violations and consequences

If any users of our spaces violate the above rules, staff can:

  • Give them a verbal warning for a first offense
  • Ask them to leave the space
  • Call security
  • Suspend library privileges
