Research Data Management (RDM)

The three Canadian federal granting agencies, namely, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), view Research Data Management (RDM) as a necessary part of research excellence.

Using public funds, the agencies support research, research training, knowledge transfer and innovation. In turn, they expect that the research they fund will be replicable and conducted according to the highest professional, disciplinary and ethical standards. In addition, the agencies believe that research data should be responsibly and securely managed, and available for reuse by others, whenever ethical, cultural, legal and commercial obligations allow.

According to the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy, as of March 1, 2023, all postsecondary institutions eligible to administer Tri-Agency funds must have an institutional RDM strategy.

Vanier College has made its RDM Strategy publicly available on this website and share it with the agencies. To consult Vanier’s RDM Strategy, please download it here.

The implementation of Vanier College’s RDM strategy will be overseen by the Dean of Academic Development and Research, Avery Rueb. The strategy will be reviewed and revised every two years, as RDM services, infrastructure and practices evolve. Reviews and revisions will be made in consultation with the RDM Strategy Implementation Committee and with stakeholder communities. The next review and revision are scheduled to be completed by March 1, 2025.
