In this program, students develop their knowledge and skills across a range of medical and veterinary disciplines in order to provide quality care to animals. They study and practice elements of nursing, surgery, diagnostic imaging, animal husbandry, pharmacology, nutrition and more. This knowledge is applied to a range of animal species, including domesticated, laboratory, exotic and farm animals. Throughout their time in the program, AHT students work with live animals in the department’s on-site clinic, performing radiographs, collecting and analyzing samples and preparing patients for surgery. Graduates leave the program well-prepared to pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
Vanier’s AHT program is the only one of its kind offered in English in Quebec. It is also the only AHT program in the province accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CMVA). Our students also benefit from the college’s unique international partnership with the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, with a chance to complete their internships there. Finally, full-time AHT students can participate in the Work-Study program (Alternance Travail-Études), in which they complete two paid summer internships.
