Vanier College is proud to announce that on November 18, 2013, amateur athletes, Dorothy Yeats, Jacqueline Simoneau and Pamela Ware from Vanier College, were all named to CIBC Team Next. The CIBC Team Next program is a $2 million investment to assist 67 athletes from across the country who aspire to realize their dreams and represent Canada on the international stage.
All three CIBC Team Next student athletes will receive a $5000 annual grant over the next three years plus invaluable opportunities to learn important career and life skills from former and current Canadian athlete mentors. Of the 67 amateur athletes, 20 are from Quebec.
Dorothy Yeats - wrestler
Dorothy, who is in her graduating semester of Vanier’s Pure & Applied Science program, is the current Women’s Junior World Wrestling Champion in the 67 kg category. She plans to pursue her studies in Engineering like her father before her but has yet to determine what university she will attend. Dorothy has won the Nationals every year since she started competing five years ago and her dream would be to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Jacqueline Simoneau - synchronized swimmer
Jacqueline is in her first semester of Vanier’s Social Science program. She chose synchronized swimming in 2005 after she tried many different water sports because she loves the combination of artistic and athleticism all in one sport. She won a Bronze medal in her first year as a junior in the solo event at the 2012 World Championships in Greece as a member of Canada’s Synchro Junior National Team. Her long term goal will be the Olympics in 2016.
Pamela Ware - diver
Pamela is a diver and is in her second year of Vanier’s Social Science program. In 2009, she came away with two individual Gold medals representing Quebec at the 2009 Canada Games. Pamela also won two Bronze medals at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Her first Bronze was with partner Jennifer Abel in the synchronized 3-meter event. She won her second Bronze in the 3-meter solo event. Pamela has also set her sights on the Olympics in 2016.
