Symposium
Many serious issues face us today, both here in Quebec and in other parts of the world. Upholding human rights and democracy, protecting the environment, and combating misinformation, all need our engagement. This year’s Vanier College Social Science Festival running October 21-25, 2024, hopes to increase our understanding of difficult and complex issues, celebrate ancestral cultures, and promote respectful dialogue about future visions of our society and world.
Highlights of the week include Keynote speaker lawyer, Julius Grey discussing Quebec language Laws. Mohawk filmmaker Courtney Montour, screening “Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again”. Fitness professional, Simone Samuels presenting “Body positivity in a weight-hating world.” Randal Schnoor of York University discussing the value of Israel/Palestine student dialogue. Vanier’s Avi Goldberg and Anna Zalik from Toronto, exploring “Normalizing Non-Conformity: Jewish Dissent on Israel-Palestine within Jewish & Academic.” Social Science students Jon Caluza and Althea Galiza will also present their Qualitative Methods Research project entitled En français SVP! Bill 96 & the perspectives of CEGEP students based on interviews with Vanier and Cegep de St-Laurent students. The following is an overview of all events.
