Vanier College’s Dorothy Yeats Wins Bursary from La Fondation-Desjardins-Sport-Études

St. Laurent- April 8th 2014 - Vanier College’s Director General Mr. Normand W. Bernier is pleased to announce that Vanier student Dorothy Yeats is being awarded a $500 bursary from La Fondation Desjardins-Sport-Études . A reception was held today at Vanier College to mark the occasion in the presence of Mr. Bernier as well as Ms. Micheline D. Legault of the Fondation Desjardins and Marie-Ève Dugas from Alliance Sport-Études.

Dorothy is the gold medal champion for the 2012 and 2013 Women’s Junior World Wrestling Championship in the 67 kg category. She is also the silver medalist in the Senior World Championship and has won at a National level every year since she began competing. Dorothy's dream is to compete at the 2016 olympics in Rio De Janiero. Academically, she is on track to graduate from Vanier’s Pure & Applied Science program in May, upon which she intends to pursue her studies in Civil Engineering at McGill University.

“I offer my congratulations to Dorothy for this special award. Vanier College has had the honour of producing many top caliber athletes who have gone on to accomplish amazing achievements. I am convinced that Dorothy will achieve greatness and I wish her the best,” said Mr. Bernier.

The award is being administered by the alliance Sport-Études, a program designed to help Quebec students achieve excellent in both athletics and academics. Partnered with the alliance, La Fondation Desjardins awards one student from every college who has achieved distinction in both these areas. Vanier was proud to select Dorothy as this year’s award winner and is pleased to have been able to assist her in terms of advancing her very promising future career.
