Two Vanier College student athletes win scholarships from the Fondation Sport-études

May 27, 2014

Congratulations to two Vanier College student athletes who won 2014 scholarships from the Fondation Sport-études. Vanier Pure and Applied Science student, Dorothy Yeats, received a 2014 RDS Scholarship valued at $5,000; and Communications: Art, Media, Theatre student, Brooke Brimo, won a SRAM Award of $1,500.

The awards were given at a reception held on May 15 when a total of $65,000 in scholarships was awarded to Québec student athletes in recognition of their high academic performance and outstanding athletics accomplishments.

Dorothy Yeats, who is graduating in Science this year, is the gold medal champion for the 2012 and 2013 Women’s Junior World Wrestling Championship in the 67 kg category. She is also the silver medalist in the Senior World Championship and has won at a National level every year since she began competing. Dorothy plans to continue wrestling while studying Civil Engineering at McGill University next year. True to her roots, Dorothy is following in the footsteps of her coach and father, Doug Yeats, a five-time Olympian wrestler and engineer, and hopes to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janiero.

Seventeen-year-old, Brooke Brimo, currently entering her second year of the Communications: Art, Media, Theatre program at Vanier, is a medal-winning synchronized swimmer. Totally dedicated to her sport and her studies, Brooke has little time for other activities. Her friendships and social life center on her swimming teammates and what extra free time she does have is usually spent drawing or sketching – her other favorite activities. Besides competing in the 2015 Canada Games in synchronized swimming, Brooke’s ambition is to study fashion design in university.

Congratulations to Dorothy Yeats and Brooke Brimo.
