Vanier College is pleased to announce that three Vanier students were among the 2020 recipients of bursaries from the Fondation Sport-Études and its partners. At a virtual event held on November 25, 68 student athletes from Quebec colleges and universities received bursaries of $1250 each.
The three Vanier winners are synchronized swimmer Jacqueline Simoneau who received a bursary for her academic and athletic success, wrestler Erin Rainville who was awarded for her academic excellence, and track field athlete Adriana Phan who was also awarded for her academic excellence.
Jacqueline Simoneau’s athletic career has included winning several gold medals at both the 2015 and 2019 Pan American Games, as well as some 30 medals at the 2019 World Series, and was to culminate with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that were postponed until 2021 due to Covid 19. Jacqueline, who studied Health Science at Vanier, graduated in June 2020 and was the Valedictorian for her graduating class. She hopes to pursue her Olympics ambitions and eventually study in health care.
Erin Rainville is a Science with Mathematics student at Vanier. She is a Canada Games Bronze medal winner in female wrestling in the 56kg category who takes her training and the practice of her sport very seriously. She dreams of mounting the podium at the World Championships and eventually becoming a high school mathematics teacher as well as a trainer in the future.
Adriana Phan is a Science student at Vanier. Both her studies and her sport are important to her and she hopes to pursue her university studies while simultaneously performing at a high level in track and field. One of her goals for track is to be on the podium of national competitions for either long jump or the 100m hurdles in the next few years. She always hopes to compete at an international level in the coming years.
Congratulations and best of luck to these three outstanding students and athletes.
