Jazz trombone audition guide

Components

1) Scales and arpeggios

  • Major and harmonic minor, up to 4 sharps and flats, one or two octaves
  • E+, e-, F+, f-, f#-, G+ & g- must be played in two octaves

2) One Classical Étude

  • Choose from Arban, Kopprash, Hering, Fink or Rochut, or one transcription of a trombone solo (32 bars)

3) Improvisation:

  • Improvise on a Bb blues, using the blues and the various scales that can be used on a blues.

4) Sight reading will be given

You greatly improve your chances of acceptance when you prepare your audition requirements with the guidance of a qualified Trombone teacher.
