In this program, students immerse themselves in two of the following languages: Spanish, Italian, German, Russian or Mandarin. Over six intensive courses, they develop their oral, reading and writing skills, complemented by classes in literature, culture, film and linguistics. In their third and fourth semesters, students delve into the theory and practice of translation, applying their knowledge through lab-based workshops.
Vanier’s Languages and Cultures department offers students unique exchange and travel opportunities in destinations like Italy, Germany, China and Latin America. Regular visits to cultural institutions like art galleries and theatres are also an important part of the program. In addition, students have the option to complement their studies through the East European and Slavic Studies Major. Our graduates go on to pursue studies in Literature, Translation, Linguistics, Education, Political Science, Law, Tourism, Literature, Business and more.
