Two student athletes at Vanier College win 2016 Alliance Sport-Études bursaries

Vanier College is proud to announce that two of its student athletes were among the 36 students who won bursaries awarded by the Fondation Sport-Études this spring.

Laurence Fortin-Haines, a Science student who plays softball, was awarded a $1500 Bourse d’excellence académique from the Major Junior Hockey League of Quebec (LHJMQ).

Mikella Lefebvre-Otis a Social Science student, was awarded a $1000 Bourse d’excellence académique et sportive, RDS. Mikella has already won a $60,000 five-year track and field scholarship from UCLA, where she will begin her university studies in the fall. Mikella was the 2012 Canadian Midget Champion and won a Bronze medal at the 2013 Canadian Junior Championships. In 2015, she won gold at both the Junior National Championships and Youth National Championships. She was also named Female Youth Athlete of the Year for 2015 and was on Team Canada for the World Youth Championships.

This year a record number of 116 scholarships with a total value of $169,000 were given at a reception held in May. The Fondation Sport-Études provides these awards to student athletes in recognition of their high academic performance and outstanding athletics accomplishments.
