Eating right to be healthy is not just for people, it’s also for pets who often have the same problems as humans – poor nutrition, lack of exercise and poor weight control. Pet Nutritionist, Hilary Watson will offer insights and guidelines on healthy pet nutrition when she speaks to students in the Animal Health Technology program on October 16, 2013 from 2:00pm to 3:45pm in the Vanier College Auditorium. This talk is open to the public.
Pet nutrition Students in the Animal Health program need to know how to deal with these issues and promote proper pet nutrition for clients they will eventually deal with in their future employment. Hilary Watson has more than 20 years of experience in pet nutrition, including pet food formulation, product development and quality assurance. Her experience covers both pet wellness nutrition, as well as pet clinical nutrition (nutrition of sick pets).
Feeding pets properly Ms. Watson has conducted many pet nutrition workshops and seminars for pet owners and pet professionals, taught undergraduate pet nutrition courses, spoken at conferences, and lectured at veterinary and Animal Health Technology colleges across Canada. Her lecture comes at an opportune moment since it will provide additional insight for Vanier students currently working on a project with obese pets.
Ready for the future and real-life challenges “The involvement with real cases will give the students the opportunity to experience the many challenges involved with weight loss,” says Dr. Laett. “For example, there is Daisy, a seven-year old Sheltie who lives with three children under six and a memory challenged great grand-mother who constantly feed Daisy!” Clearly with this kind of hands-on practice working with obese pets and theoretical knowledge of nutrition, Animal Health students will be well prepared for their future employment working with pets and their owners.
