In memoriam: Rose Pinto de Souza, 1941 - 2025

It is with great sadness that Vanier has learned of the passing of Rose Pinto de Souza, on January 11, 2025.
Rose’s remarkable life spanned several decades and continents. She who was born in India moved to Uganda with her husband where she worked as a school teacher while raising her children. When the political situation in Uganda became untenable, she relocated with her family to Montreal, which was home for the remainder of her life.
Rose proudly worked as a Librarian at Vanier College (1975-2010), where she guided generations of young students towards bright futures. Her academic career was consecrated by a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Western University, which she obtained at the age of 53.
Those who knew Rose will tell you that she was an undeniable force and Renaissance woman: a scholar and voracious reader, exceptional cook, world traveler, avid gardener, keen investor, church warden, community organizer and volunteer, as well as devoted philanthropist.
In her memory, a donation to Doctors Without Borders would be appreciated.
