The Damage Insurance Personal Lines ACS program is the first step to becoming a Damage Insurance Personal Lines representative. The program is designed to train people to work in private companies, both insurance companies and brokerage firms.

This training opens doors to various career paths in a fast-growing industry. Graduates are trained to work as agents, brokers, claims adjusters, and underwriters in personal lines damage insurance.

This innovative training is offered in collaboration with the La Coalition pour une Relève en Assurance de Dommages as a work & study program PRET. This partnership between Vanier Continuing Education and the Industry offers students the opportunity to obtain an Attestation in College Studies and gain work experience. The students selected to work with a participant insurance company receive a full salary for the duration of their training.

What are my options after graduating?

Damage Insurance is not only a growing field but it is one in which a new generation of professionals is required to fill the gaps caused by the ever increasing retirement of current practitioners. It is estimated that the field will have thousands of openings over the next few years. Once students have successfully completed their licensing exams with the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) and finished their internship requirements, they will be able to work as:

  • Agents: Typical responsibilities include advising clients on insurance products, concluding transactions, providing customer service and processing claims.
  • Brokers: Offering a range of products from different insurers, advising clients, negotiation insurance coverage, and evaluating risks and needs.
  • Claims adjusters: Carry out all the tasks relative to a claim including investigation, assessment, negotiation of settlements and reporting.
  • Underwriters: Analyzes risks through research, data collection and documentation, provides quotes and negotiates terms and conditions.
